Workshops

Tiny Tapeout workshops are hands-on, beginner-friendly sessions, guiding participants through the world of silicon design. In just four hours, you’ll get a taste of how digital circuits are built and see your ideas come to life on an actual chip.

Each workshop is led by Tiny Tapeout founder Matt Venn or an experienced member of the Tiny Tapeout team, ensuring expert guidance throughout.

What you’ll learn in a four-hour workshop:

  • Draw a transistor that could be used in a logic gate
  • Build a simple digital design using logic gates
  • Generate the ASIC files from your design
  • Submit your design to be manufactured on the next Tiny Tapeout chip

Frequently Asked Questions

Is prior experience required?
Most of our workshops are aimed at complete beginners, no prior experience necessary!

Can you tailor workshops according to participant experience?
Yes, while our standard workshop is aimed at beginners, we can lead more advanced workshops if needed.

Do I need to organise my own teaching assistants to help during the workshop?
Yes. We can provide training materials and support, and recommend a minimum number of 1 teaching assistant per 10 attendees. For example, a 50-person workshop should have a minimum of 5 teaching assistants.

Can I work with my own sponsors or partners to fund the workshop?
Yes! We can also provide promotional materials as well as reports from previous workshops to help you secure funding.

What kind of space do you need for a workshop?
The format of our workshops works best in a room suited for teaching or presenting. Classrooms, conference halls, or lecture rooms have all worked well in the past. A PA or sound system that allows for use of a microphone and computer audio input is required. Full technical requirements can be provided as necessary.
