We just packed 237 of your projects into our most exciting ASIC to date! Let’s take a look inside…
This was the first time we enabled 4-tile high designs, and it opened the door to something special: Asteroid, a monster crowdsourced RISC-V microcontroller. At 60,000 standard cells, it’s the biggest design we’ve ever seen on Tiny Tapeout. We’ll be announcing the RISC-V competition results in the next few days!
Inspired by Peter Kinget, we commissioned Andrew Kang to create a Mini MOSBius circuit especially for us. The idea is brilliant! An analog FPGA that lets analog designers get faster feedback on their circuit designs, right on real silicon.
Mitch Altman has long inspired us, so as a tribute we included an ASIC version of his classic TV-B-Gone — the universal off button for TVs. This also provided a good opportunity to test Sylvain Munaut’s ROM.
We have our first commissioned art piece from Sabine Wieluch: “Cross Stitch Creatures” — the first of a 4-part series exploring what silicon art looks like.
It’s fantastic to see people using our service to test bigger, more ambitious mixed-signal designs. Jesse put a tiny 16×32 OpenRAM memory block inside a 4-tile digital design.
Another designer created a PLL that takes full advantage of our smallest and cheapest tile — with excellent documentation too! And Anton Maurovic designed a beautiful current steering DAC optimized to drive VGA monitors. Great to see your mixed-signal skills evolving, Anton!
